Fraud and Counterfeiting in the Imaging Supplies Industry

1An Industry In Transition

September 18 – 20, 2016

Marriott Delmar, San Diego, CA

McCabe Assoicates is pleased to announce that Clayton Jorge, Country Manager for McCabe Associates in Brazil, with its corporate offices based in São Paulo, will be making a Presentation and Case Review on September 19th at The Imaging Supplies Coalition 16th International Conference, Fraud and Counterfeiting in the Imaging Supplies Industry, in San Diego, California.

The case review is that of an e-Commerce investigation that was conducted on behalf of Canon

that evolved during investigative research on behalf of Canon for the monitoring of sales of counterfeit camera batteries on Mercado Livre (E-Bay).

As a result, the investigation discovered that the vendor was a wholesale seller of a wide variety of electronic components, including counterfeit Canon batteries and chargers.  McCabe Associates investigators were able to establish themselves as potential customers looking for photo and computer accessories.  The investigation progressed with the meeting of the vendor and discussions of future transactions.

The investigation revealed information about the vendor and his operations.  Investigators were led to the vendor’s location of operations in what appeared to be an old, deteriorating building covered in graffiti.  However, it was discovered that the structure was solid with an operating call-center, shipping area and storage facilities of a thriving business containing thousands of electronic products which of course included counterfeit products of our client.

McCabe Associates coordinated a Police Raid that yielded the seizures of large quantities of illegal and counterfeit products of Canon and the subsequent closure of the business, shutting down operations, other seizures and the arrest of the vendor and associates.
